 Acoustic Modification kit

Project Duration: 7 weeks Tools: Prototyping, Drumming, Solidworks
Drummers are constantly looking for new sounds to incorporate into their work, often using methods like tape or rubber bands to secure various objects to their drum heads.

I set out to create a modular clamp system that allows drummers to secure different objects to change the acoustic properties of their drums.
This spring-loaded stick reverberates after each hit, creating an echo as you play.
This is a clip to secure whatever you desire. In this example, I put a screw through a lacrosse ball and sanded it flat to act as a dampener.

❷ Use
 Using wing nut, clamp the base to the rim of a drum.

 Screw in attachment to short end of the U shaped bar.

 Screw the U assembly to the clamp in desired placement.

❸ Ideation
I tried to stay true to the systems and form language established in drum products.

❹ Prototyping

A majority of the time was spent working out the tolerances of the clamp mechanism, as well as the reverb attachment.
Initially I intended the user to thread on attachments.
