 Acoustic Modification kit

Project Duration: 7 weeks Advisor: Stephen Stadelmeier, CMU Tools: Prototyping, Drumming, Solidworks
Drummers are constantly looking for new sounds to incorporate into their work, often using methods like tape or rubber bands to secure various objects to their drum heads.

I set out to create a modular clamp system that allows drummers to secure different objects to change the acoustic properties of their drums.
his spring loaded stick reverberates after each hit, creating an echo as you play.
This is a clip to secure whatever you desire. In this example, I put a screw through a lacrosse ball and sanded it flat to act as a dampener.

❷ Use
 Using wing nut, clamp the base to the rim of a drum.

 Screw in attachment to short end of the U shaped bar.

 Screw the U assembly to the clamp in desired placement.

❸ Ideation
I tried to stay true to the systems and form language established in drum products.

❹ Prototyping

A majority of time was spent working out the tolerances of the clamp mechanism, as well as the reverb attachment.
Initially I intended the user to thread on attachments.
